Dear Grade 5 FCS Families,

We are excited to be starting a photography residency for our Grade 5 students next week. This five-week residency will run in the mornings on the following dates: Tuesday, September 15, Thursday, September 24, Thursday, October 1, Thursday, October 8, and Thursday, October 15 (walking trip to Fish Creek Park). Lindsay Nichols, a local Fine Arts Photographer, will be engaging students in learning key concepts and developing their skills through practice. The first 4 sessions will happen at school and the final one will be a photographic Scavenger Hunt down in Fish Creek Park (weather permitting).  Lindsay has done this residency with our grade 5’s for many years and has a great way with students. In a world where taking pictures is often an everyday happening, this will set them up to take better photos in their day to day life going forward.

For each session, students will need to bring a photo-taking device (tablet or smartphone) or digital camera to take their photos. Keeping in line with our school’s Personal Mobile Device policy, these devices are only to be used for the purpose of this residency during class time. Let us know if you are not able to provide one for your child to use, so we can make alternate arrangements. Please ensure that the device is fully charged each day and that you send a download cable so we can download and work with the photos.

If you send a tablet or smartphone, it would be very helpful to have the Google Drive app already downloaded. That way students can upload their photos directly to the Google Drive Account [@educbe.ca].

The cost for the residency is $23.50, which will become posted next week. It can be paid online by logging into your myCBE account.  An acknowledgement of risk form will also be coming home.  We are sending this home early to ensure that students are able to bring a device to school for next Tuesday.

If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher.
