Grade 6 Cross Country Skiing On-Site Experience
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our Grade 6 students will be participating in an exciting on-site Cross Country Skiing experience this winter with instructors from Foothills Nordic! This program gives students a fun and active outdoor learning opportunity while developing balance, coordination, and confidence on the snow.
Program Details
Location: School Field
Date(s): January 12, 13 and 14
Lesson Duration: 75 minutes per session
Fee: $31.50 per student — payable through PowerSchool
Equipment Provided: Skis, boots, and poles
If the weather does not cooperate, alternative indoor programming will be provided.
Volunteers Needed
We are looking for 2 parent/guardian volunteers per class to help ensure the sessions runs smoothly and safely. Volunteer duties may include helping students get their equipment on, offering encouragement, and supporting students on the field.
Our room parent will send out a sign up for each day. Please stay posted.
You are required to have completed your volunteer clearance.

What is Cross Country Skiing?
Cross country skiing is like gliding through a snowy playground! Instead of skiing down hills, students move across flat or gently rolling terrain. Their heels are free from the skis, allowing them to walk or slide smoothly over the snow. Poles may be added once students are comfortable with basic movement. This program focuses on skill-building and FUN!
What to Wear
Because this experience takes place outdoors in winter weather, students must come dressed in warm and layered clothing every day they are skiing. Proper attire ensures comfort, safety, and enjoyment.
Essential Clothing:
● Warm socks (wool recommended)
● Long pants and a long-sleeve shirt (base layer)
● Snow pants
● Warm winter jacket
● Toque
● Mittens or gloves
Helpful Extras:
● Spare socks
● Sunscreen
● Sunglasses or ski goggles
● Chapstick
● Hand/toe warmers (for very cold day)
