Grade 6 students will be visitin the Jumping Pound Demonstration Forest in Kananaskis with Inside Education. This full-day outdoor program will support and extend curricular outcomes in our Science program, particularly in the areas of forest ecosystems, environmental stewardship, and human interactions with natural spaces. Students will participate in hands-on, inquiry-based learning activities led by Inside Education staff.  This field trip also provides students with the opportunity to collaborate, problem-solve, and deepen their understanding of Alberta’s forest environments in a real-world setting.

Students will participate in a variety of outdoor learning experiences focused on forest ecology, including tree identification, forest measurement activities, soil and habitat exploration, and discussions about sustainable forest management. Activities are primarily outdoors, so students must be prepared for changing weather conditions and walking on uneven terrain.  All students should come dressed appropriately for a full day in a forest environment.

Please ensure your child:

  • Wears layered clothing suitable for outdoor weather conditions
  • Wears sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes or hiking footwear
  • Brings a backpack (hands-free is ideal)
  • Brings a labelled water bottle and lunch (and snacks if needed)
  • Applies sunscreen and/or insect repellent as appropriate
  • Does not bring valuables, electronics, or unnecessary items
  • Reviews expectations for safe and respectful outdoor behaviour

Student safety is our top priority. Behaviour expectations and safety procedures will be reviewed with all students prior to departure. The school’s Code of Conduct applies to all off-site activities.  Students are expected to always follow teacher and program leader instructions. Parents may be contacted and asked to pick up their child at their own expense if behaviour expectations are not met. Students are not permitted to bring cell phones or electronic devices. The school and CBE are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings.

We will need approximately 4-6 parent volunteers for this trip. Please be on the lookout for an email from our Room Parent to help organize.    Please complete the Acknowledgement of Risk form and return to your child’s teacher by May 14, 2026.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
