We are now in June, and summer is right around the corner. The sun has been shining and students have been enjoying their time outside. The quacking in the division 1 hallway reached its annual crescendo. This afternoon, as we were saying, “farewell,” to our feathered friends, we welcomed new kindergarten students and their families to Fish Creek School.
Everyday Math Ideas
As we make plans for the summer there is an opportunity to bring numbers into the conversation with our kids. If you’ve got a list of things to do, perhaps you can follow up with questions that involve counting, frequency, distance, and time.
- For younger children, you can ask questions like, “Our list of activities includes walking the dog. How many times should we do that every week? How long should the walks be? Can you describe a good walk with and without using numbers?”
 - For older children, you might incorporate some operations into your plans, “If you’re going to take the dog for four walks each week, and go to the park everyday, how much time are you going to be outside? If you had to increase that number, how would you do it?”

Yearbook
We are excited to announce that we have a yearbook for the 2023-2024 school year. Thanks to our amazing teachers, staff, and dedicated parent volunteer who have been taking pictures throughout the year to make this happen! Yearbooks are $25 each and can be ordered online on Healthy Hunger until June 12. Expected delivery is June 21 in the school so kids will have time to get autographs from all their friends and teachers before summer break!
Please note, in an effort to get yearbooks out to students in June rather than in the fall, we are not using professional school pictures to print the yearbooks. All photos, including individual photos, are photos taken throughout the year by teachers and staff.

Sinkhole Remediation Project Update
We would like to thank Spruce it Up for making a generous donation towards this project. An order for materials has been placed and we are on track to begin work on 22 June at 9:00 AM.
We are still looking for volunteers to help. Many hands make light work. We need your help to fill in several sinkholes that have developed in the div 1 park, the div 2 park, and at the front of the school. These sinkholes not only disrupt our children's activities when filled with rain water but also pose as tripping hazards, breaking ankles. If you have any tools like rakes, gloves, or shovels, please bring them along. We are definitely in need of wheelbarrows and/or rototillers - please let Danny Yip (danny.ckyip@gmail.com) know if you have these tools to use for this work.
- Join us on June 22 starting at 9 AM (weather permitting), until finished. Please sign up!
