Thanks to the Fish Creek School Council, our students had the opportunity to work with coaches from Fitset Ninja this week. Students worked together to overcome obstacles and meet a range of physical challenges. Unique experiences like this show students that there are many ways of being physically active, hopefully sparking an interest and encouraging a balanced healthy lifestyle. We appreciate the support of the School Council and the generosity of everyone who has contributed to their fundraising efforts. Your efforts help make Fish Creek School the special place that it is.

Everyday Math Ideas

Not long ago, several students arrived at the office to measure my height. They took great delight in using the metre sticks, so often reserved for teachers. They were compelled by the novelty of using a tool so often reserved for teachers. It occurred to me that there might be an opportunity to engage children in measurement activities using a tool that most people have at home, but we almost never use at school: the humble measuring tape.

  • For younger children, you can start by showing how a measuring tape works, and using it to measure the height or length of some of their favourite toys, “Is your stuffed penguin as tall as your favourite doll?”
  • For older children, you can start to involve your children in measuring for real-life applications. If you are sending a package, or double-checking if a bag will fit in a carry-on bin, you can pull out a measuring tape and ask your child to help you figure it out.

Volunteer Opportunity

Calling all volunteers! We need your help to fill in several sinkholes that have developed in the div 1 park, the div 2 park, and at the front of the school.  These sinkholes not only disrupt our children's activities when filled with rain water but also pose as tripping hazards, breaking ankles. And, kids love the mud – which you have probably seen on pant legs and coats.

We are organizing a landscaping day and require your help!  If you have any tools like rakes, gloves, or shovels, please bring them along.  We are definitely in need of wheelbarrows and/or rototillers - please let Danny Yip know if you have these tools to use for this work.

Drop off/Pick up Area

If you have used our drop off/pick up zone recently, you will have noticed our signs reminding drivers to ‘Hug and Go’, and ‘No Parking’. Thank you! So many of our parents are now using this zone and quickly moving on. We have seen a noticeable decrease in traffic on Suncastle Drive because of your efforts and we appreciate everyone doing their best to make this area a convenient drive through, especially at the beginning of the school day.

Planning for Sports Day

We have begun our planning for Sports Day, which will occur on Friday, May 31st. We will be setting up approximately 24 stations for all of our students to experience. What we need is our wonderful volunteers to run many of the stations. If you are a cleared volunteer and can join us in making this day fantastic for our students, please sign up through the following link:
