Have you completed demographic forms for your family in School Engage? Each year, schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians / independent students are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online. These forms are required every year for Alberta Education to confirm student funding. We recognize certain families have already completed Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms for their children for the 2025-26 school year and we thank you for taking time to submit them. The due date has passed and there 100+families who have not yet completed them.
- Demographic Verification - 2025-26 – This required form is an Alberta Education requirement as proof of Registration for funding purposes and includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
 - Citizenship Information Update - 2025-26 – This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
 - Annual Authorization - 2025-26 – Combines the following forms:
 - School District Use of Personal Information - explains how CBE uses personal information in providing education services.
 - Consent for CBE Use of Student Information – provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by school/district and third parties.
 - Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party) - provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by outside groups and third parties

SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. For online help, refer to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).
To complete these forms:
- sign in to your MyCBE account
 - click on the SchoolEngage icon
 - select the form
 - complete or review and update the form
 - click on Submit to send the form electronically to the school
 - repeat steps 3-5 for each form

Our annual Terry Fox Run will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025. The run will begin at 12:00 pm and end at approximately 12:30 pm. Students will be asked to return to their classroom for dismissal. The run takes place on our school field, the loop is around the soccer posts. Families are invited to lace up and join in the run with the students if they would like to. Students are encouraged to bring a “Toonie for Terry” or to donate through the Terry Fox Foundation. (please note that this link is for donations. The date says September 25, which is for the national run. Fish Creek will be doing our run on September 26)
A reminder that on September 29 & 30 there is no school due to a non-instruction day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation respectively.
Schools are funded based on enrollment as of September 30. Adjustments to the school organization and staffing assignments may have to be at that time to align resources with students’ needs.
Coffee with Katrin and Tim will be held on October 3, 2025 at 11:30am in the staff room. Everyone is welcome to discuss any general questions you may have. If they are individual, student-specific questions, please contact your child’s teacher first.

Calling all volunteers! We are fortunate to have our next Casino dates coming up Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11, 2025. This casino will bring in somewhere between $65,000 and $85,000 to the school to help pay for things like playground upkeep and replacement, books, gym equipment, student online resources, laptops and technology, and so much more. Without parent volunteers we will have to forfeit the casino and miss out on this huge contribution to the school, so if you can volunteer please do! Please view the Sign Up Genius to see the shifts available. You do NOT need school clearance and a police report to participate. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbours and anyone over 18 is welcome to volunteer. You can volunteer for multiple shifts but they have to be the same role each time over the 2 days (i.e. if you are cashier one day, you need to be cashier the next). A meal and snacks are provided.
This year's fun lunches have now been booked and are ready to place orders. To place your child's order please visit the Healthy Hunger website at https://healthyhunger.ca and create your account. Once created, you can add students under Fish Creek School and their class. Please note, some of our lunches have two delivery times. Only the one of the delivery times will show based on your child's lunch time. Please note the order cut off for each fun lunch is the Saturday before.
If your child will be absent on a fun lunch day, you can cancel their lunch on the Healthy Hunger website before the cut off date (the Saturday before the lunch.) Refunds are not available through the school at any time or via Healthy Hunger after the cut off date. If your child is unexpectedly absent on the Fun Lunch day, please contact the office to arrange for pickup in the office from 12:00-1:00 pm or to have it sent home with a sibling. Any lunches left at the school after 1:00 pm will be forfeited. Please contact fishcreekschoolcouncil@gmail.com with any fun lunch questions. Thank you!
Our next meeting is Tuesday, October 21 at 7:00 pm. We hope you’ll join us. Please send any additional agenda items to Susanne McGuinness.
If you are curious how many more resources our children would have if our public school was funded at the level of other provinces or the national average, this School Funding Calculator is eye-opening. **Spoiler alert – if we were funded at the level of Saskatchewan, we’d have 7 more teachers, meaning we would have a gym teacher (and maybe a full-time librarian, resource teacher, science teacher, counselor or other specialists) and our class sizes wouldn’t be above recommended guidelines in any grade. And if we were funded at the level of Manitoba, we’d have 11 more new teachers!
We also want to extend our support for Fish Creek’s teachers and staff who do so much for our children each day. If you are looking for ways to support our school this month, look at this website and this website, and consider contacting our MLA, Myles McDougall.
