Dear families of Fish Creek School,

We began the week with students walking and rolling to school to mark Earth Day. The reading portion of our Read-A-Thon came to an end, and now we are in the process of tallying up the results. Early indications suggest that this has been enormously popular and that families have been particularly generous with their support. Thank you for making this such a tremendous success.

Everyday Math Ideas

Now that the students have finished their reading and fundraising, perhaps there is an opportunity for analyzing the results and setting data-informed goals.

  • For younger children, you can look at the goal and results, and ask, “How many days did you reach your goal?”
    • If the goal was reached often or always, “Could you keep up this pace every week?”
    • If the goal was not reached often, “What goal do you think you could reach on most days?”
  • For older children, after talking about their goals and results, “How many minutes would you read if you kept this up for a whole year? Could you figure out how many hours that would be, or how many books it would be?”

Follow Up Family Travel Survey - link to share with families

To gather results from our Walk and Wheel to School Day, we would like to invite families to complete the Family Follow-up Travel Survey. Your responses are anonymous and will be stored electronically in secure password-protected files, only accessible to the school's Active and Safe Routes to School team, Ever Active Schools, and the City of Calgary, who are directly involved in the project.

One World Drum Residency

From May 6 to 10, One World Drum will take up residency at Fish Creek School, bringing West African drumming to our students. They have been bringing their knowledge of the djembe to schools for over 30 years, and we are looking forward to hearing the rhythmic sounds of drumming echoing through our halls.

Volunteer Tea

On May 3 we will be hosting an event to thank our volunteers for their generous contributions to Fish Creek School our students. The invitation is attached below. You can RSVP using this Form.
