Dear families of Fish Creek School,
Welcome back from March Break. We hope you have had the opportunity for some rest, relaxation, and time with your family.
Everyday Math Ideas
Over the next few weeks, your children will be participating in the Fish Creek School Council Read-A-Thon. They will be coming to you to report their daily minutes and tally their results, providing an excellent opportunity to involve them in everyday math problem solving.
- For younger children, you can show them the record sheet and ask them to find the days with the largest numbers. When you’re all done, you can ask them which was their best week for reading. You might even have a chance to ask about some of the possible reasons for the differences in the numbers.
 - For older children, you can break out the highlighters and ask your children to sort the numbers, green for the days with the most minutes, red for the days with the fewest, and yellow for the ones in the middle. You can ask about the pattern that emerges, and see if your child can figure out a targeted strategy to improve the number of minutes they read.

What is the most beautiful thing you know about Fish Creek School?
This month, your children will be coming home with a question for a member of your extended family. For many, this could be an aunt, uncle, or grandparent. The question is going to be, “What is the most beautiful thing you know about our family?” The purpose of this process is to help our students practice gathering information from knowledgeable and trusted adults and then sharing it with their peers. Our goal is for our students to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their place in their family and community.
Walk and Wheel to School
Join us on Monday, April 22, 2024, as we stride towards a greener, healthier planet with our Earth Day Walk & Wheel event! Embrace the spirit of Earth Day by choosing active travel options like walking, cycling, or scooting to school and around your neighbourhood. By reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly transportation, we're not just taking steps, but rolling wheels towards a brighter, cleaner future for generations to come. Together, we'll demonstrate the power of collective action in combating climate change and fostering sustainable healthy habits.
Fish Creek School Store
You can access the online Fish Creek School store here. You can find official Fish Creek School gear such as t-shirts, hoodies, hats, and bags. The Fish Creek School Council receives a portion of the proceeds. Show your school spirit and support our School Council at the same time!
Community Barn Dance
Grab your hat and boots and head to Fish Creek's Community Barn Dance on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We will have a live band in Fish Creek's gym. Dances are structured and will be taught on the spot by Caller, Leslie Gotfrit, lesliegotfrit.com. No prior experience is necessary. All children require a partner for dancing (under 7 requires an adult partner). We encourage families to dance together. A copy of the flyer is here:

Purchase tickets for $5 at HealthyHunger.ca. No paper tickets are issued - you are added to the door list.  As always, each child must be accompanied by an adult.  Numbers are limited to ensure space in the gym and tickets will sell out. Snacks and drinks available for cash purchase.
We love our volunteers!  We can't hold events without you.  Please sign up to volunteer during the dance here.
