Fish Creek School Updates
Welcome back! We hope that everyone had a restful break and welcomed in 2026 with renewed energy.
We are pleased to be able to share some staffing updates. Mr. Isaac Duperreault has been hired as a PE specialist from January to May 2026. While he has been here this week, his contract was finalized today. Mr. Duperreault is familiar with Fish Creek School as he did a student teaching practicum here in 2022. He will be working closely with teachers to transition to this role. Additionally, Mrs. Kavitha Pillai has been confirmed as an Education Assistant at Fish Creek this year. Mrs. Pillai is also familiar with Fish Creek, having worked as an Education Assistant on a temporary basis. Please welcome both Mr. Duperreault and Mrs. Pillai to Fish Creek.
Kindergarten registration for the 2026/27 school year starts on January 12, 2026. Please check with the office if you need support. Registration is ongoing as we do not have a lottery. We will also have an Open House on February 5 from 4:00pm-6:00pm (changed from the previously announced date of January 29).
The school fields will be groomed over the weekend for Grade 6 Cross-Country Skiing. We ask that families stay off the fields, to preserve the tracks and grooming.
A reminder that dogs are not permitted on school grounds except where expressly approved under AR6004 (e.g., service animals or authorized educational purposes). Additionally, the City of Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw prohibits dogs on school property, including playgrounds and fields. We ask that dogs are not brought anywhere onto school property.
We have had several reported near misses and incidents of unsafe driving in front of the school, especially during pickup and drop off. We always ask that, you choose safety over convenience for the sake of all students, families and staff.
Please remember that all digital devices, including cell phones and smart watches, should be away for the day. These devices should not be used for texting or communicating during school hours, including at lunch and recess. Please read the CBE Away for the Day FAQ, which was created at the direction of a Ministerial Order.
We would appreciate if your child were sent with the necessary cutlery for their lunch. The school has been providing plastic cutlery, which was purchased for emergency situations and not on an ongoing basis
For this school year, FCS used Edge Imaging for school photos. We would like to gather feedback on Edge Imaging as our school photo provider. We welcome both positive and constructive feedback. This can be related to quality of photos, pricing, delivery time etc. We ask for your name in case we need to follow up. Please provide feedback through this link by January 23, 2026.
FCS Parent Council Updates
Our next fun lunch is Boston Pizza on Thursday, January 22. Don’t forget to place your order before the cut off on Saturday, January 17. To place your child's order please visit the Healthy Hunger website at https://healthyhunger.ca If you miss the deadline, please do not call the restaurant and ask to add an order. It is very confusing when we end up with extra lunches. If your child will be absent on a fun lunch day, you can cancel their lunch on the Healthy Hunger website before the cut off date (the Saturday before the lunch.) Refunds are not available through the school at any time or via Healthy Hunger after the cut off date. If your child is unexpectedly absent on the Fun Lunch day, please contact the office to arrange for pickup in the office from 12:00-1:00 pm or to have it sent home with a sibling. Just another reminder that our next meeting is Tuesday, January 20 at 7:00 pm. Our MLA, Myles McDougall and our School Trustee, Charlene May will both be attending. We’ll be discussing Fish Creek School and hearing presentations. We also plan to submit questions in advance.
