Dear families of Fish Creek School,

As I look at the thermometer, and think back to the frigid start to the week, I hesitate to tempt fate, but I’m hopeful that we’ve seen our last Blue Day of the school year. Please enjoy the warm weather. If you have a chance to go skating outdoors, I’d suggest you try to get a last few skates in before the ice is done for the year.

Everyday Math Ideas

Many of our students can't yet use an analog clock. With the time change coming up, this is a perfect opportunity to talk to kids about clocks and time. You might even be able to delegate a small household task.

• For younger children, you can involve them in changing clocks. Before going to bed, or first thing in the morning, you can ask your children what time it would be if we moved back the clock back an hour, then you can walk them through how to actually reset the clocks in your home.
• For older children, you can ask children about some of the concepts involved, “You know that there are 24 hours in a day. What about today? Are there any other days that aren’t 24 hours either? If we were writing down important times, how would you show a time change like this?”

Crosswalks

Many of our students use the snow-covered crosswalk on Sunwood Way SE. To help keep it clear from vehicles, we have begun marking it with a pair of fluorescent traffic cones. We’d like to thank everyone for their support. We have already noticed that the crosswalk is more accessible, making it a safer way to school for our students.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

We will be hosting parent conferences on Mar. 21 and 22. On Mar. 21, we will be having a student-led event. Please bring your child any time from 4:30 to 7:30 to have them show off some of the work that they have been working on for the first half of the school year.

Teachers will be reaching out to some families to request individual conferences for the morning of Mar. 22.

You can access the online Fish Creek School store here. You can find official Fish Creek School gear such as t-shirts, hoodies, hats, and bags. The Fish Creek School Council receives a portion of the proceeds. Show your school spirit and support out School Council at the same time!  

Roughnecks Lacrosse Game

FCS Parent Association is headed back to the Saddledome to cheer on the Calgary Roughnecks as they face the San Diego Seals!!   Lacrosse games are high energy and action-packed, so we're in for an exciting evening. Music plays during the entire game and lacrosse is widely known as “the fastest sport on two feet.”

The game is on Friday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are $35.45 each, with $5 from each ticket donated back to the parent association.  Our school will be seated in the same section (223).  Please purchase tickets here:  www.roughnecksgroups.com/Fishcreek
