Dear families of Fish Creek School,

If you were in the school this week, you may have noticed the groups of Grade 6 students organized into choruses, performing dramatic readings and presenting what they’ve learned about ancient Greece. You might even have had the humbling experience of being corrected if you made the mistake of referring to their attire as a “toga”. We would like to thank everyone who had the opportunity to visit the school and see their work. We are very proud of what they’ve accomplished.

Everyday Math Ideas

With the March Break coming up, some of our families will be taking overnight trips away from home. This can be an opportunity to get children involved in planning ahead and thinking in numbers.

  • For younger children, you can involve them in packing their own outfits, “If we leave on Saturday afternoon, and come back on Wednesday, how many days are we going to be away? So, how many pairs of socks will you need?”
  • For older children, you can ask children to start planning their own entertainment, “If we’re driving to Edmonton, and then back, can you use Google Maps to figure out how long that’s going to take? Now that you know how long we’re going to be in the car, can you look through the audiobooks available from the Calgary Public library and find some good options for us?”
  • For Grade 6 students, who will be heading to outdoor school soon, there may be an opportunity to have students consider the weight of their bags, “Test pack your bag and see if you can figure out how to accurately weigh it with a bathroom scale. Now that you’ve got that figured out, see if you can lighten your load without taking away anything essential.”

Drop-off and pick-up

Our goal is to move vehicles through our pull-through as quickly as possible. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended during drop-off and pick-up. If you need to come inside, please take advantage of our visitor parking spots.

Planning for 2024-2025

We have begun our initial planning for the 2024 – 2025 school year. Information pertaining to enrollment is extremely important to us.

In order to assist us with our student count and planning, could you please fill out this Form if any of your children WILL NOT be attending Fish Creek School next year.

Please complete by Friday, March 22/24

If there are any changes to your plans between now and August 29th/2024 (first day of school), please contact the school directly to update this information.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

We will be hosting parent conferences on Mar. 21 and Mar. 22 March. On the 21st, we will be having a student-led event. Please bring your child any time from 4:30 to 7:30 to have them show off some of the work that they have been working on for the first half of the school year.

Teachers will be reaching out to some families to request individual conferences for the morning of Mar. 22.

Community Barn Dance

Grab your hat and boots and head to Fish Creek's Community Barn Dance on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We will have a live band in Fish Creek's gym.  Dances are structured and will be taught on the spot by Caller, Leslie Gotfrit, lesliegotfrit.com.  No prior experience is necessary.  All children require a partner for dancing (under 7 requires an adult partner).  We encourage families to dance together. A copy of the flyer is here:

Purchase tickets for $5 at HealthyHunger.ca. No paper tickets are issued - you are added to the door list.  As always, each child must be accompanied by an adult.  Numbers are limited to ensure space in the gym and tickets will sell out. Snacks and drinks available for cash purchase.

We love our volunteers!  We can't hold events without you.  Please sign up to volunteer during the dance here.
